08 AprParents’ Guide for Drug Free Parties

Via the SHEU I’ve been directed to a website which is aimed at the parents of 5th to 8th graders – 10 to 14 year olds.
The site has tips for parents who are hosting the party and where children are going to someone elses party.  It also has a range of party games and food.
Here are the first three rules (out of eighteen) they suggest if your child is the host:

Young people and alcohol: meanings, practices and contexts.

Good things? I dunno – there aren’t many good things really, nothing really happens. Well – the drink and stuff like that… when people have fights and things like that but – nothing, like there’s no, like, things for kids to do round here and, with the drink, everyone just seems to have a drink on a Friday and that’s it really.

What does ‘not working’ mean?.

 
A story from Newsround, the news for Radio One, (supporting the programme above) suggests that the government’s message on cannabis isn’t getting through:
The government has spent millions trying to warn young people about the risks of smoking cannabis, but despite high-profile television campaigns, it remains the most commonly used illegal drug in the UK.
