Alabama expands distance-learning program

Alabama will use $1.8 million in federal and state grant money to add another 20 schools to the 24 already in its distance-learning program. Gov. Bob Riley said the distance-learning push, coupled with other initiatives in place to boost test scores, should propel the state’s students from near bottom to the top of the nation’s academic list. Seester, if I sent it to you, could you do some computer magic with it?

Seth, I’m pretty sure EVERY English geek has at least ONE of those texts left over from college. My problem is that I never sold any of my English books back.

Really, CTG? I would imagine that lit books would seem MUCH more friendly than grammar texts…

Jangari, that assumes a lot of computer knowledge on my part – I’m lucky I figured out how to replace the stock image that came with the blog template….

Loved all the education related tees –

If I had the money, I would purchase all of them! They crack me up!

The English teacher you do the Math tee is probably my favorite – I’m a “math challenged” History teacher.

At first I wondered why spell check didn’t flag “summery” until I read the comment above – summery as in springish, fall-like, winteresque… LOL.
I just emailed you a promotional flyer that was sent to me at work. It will be a good topic for a future grammar Weds.

Sounds like a good show, but I have no time for regularly scheduled TV, and no money for TiVo.

I do have a grammar Wednesday request, though. I’m too lazy to look this one up myself, and I just can’t seem to remember the rule.

How do you make a non ’s’ ending plural word posessive?

I washed the children’s clothes

or

I washed the childrens’ clothes

He accidentally walked into the women’s locker room

or

He accidentally walked into the womens’ locker room

You get the idea. It’s been bugging me, but my grammar books really are packed away right now.

Thanks!

Hello! I stumbled across your blog not too long ago and wanted to let you know that I’m very interested in the goingons in your profession. I’m currently studying to be a highschool social science teacher and reading about the activities and decisions that you and CT come up with in the classroom is extremely insightful. Just wanted to let you know that there is someone out there who’s taking notes and learning from your example! Thank you!

There were 8 periods total. We never had block days. I think homeroom started at 7:41 and I know that school was out for the day at 2:22. What’s the deal now?

Is that really how you spell perifery?–>

My friend’s son was shot by a burglar. When the trial date arrived the man was found guilty and sentencing took place immediately. The judge asked if the victim’s father had anything to say. “Yes, your honor, I wish you to sentence this man to a lifetime as my ’son’. I want him to take my last name and be my legal heir. I want him to have a lifetime of probation, in a sense. I forgive him this day, and I want you to do so, if you will.”

That is, in my humble opinion, true forgiveness. You carry on as if it never happened. The forget is within the action of living “as if” you know nothing to be fogiven has occured. Otherwise, you are going to remember. I forgive my ex-wife…yes, I know some things happened, but I choose to forget. My life is much simpler.
